Fig trees are quite adaptable, and can be grown in smallish gardens if their roots are contained. The cultivar Ficus carica 'Evita' produces a slightly flattened fruit with a purple skin and ruby-red flesh. It is popular to use on a cheese plate with dry biscuits or as a dessert.
